Info
The Special Collection at CMU seeks to engage students while preserving its focus on computing history. Decoded was designed to bridge the gap between visitors and collection. Decoded is a unique analog interactive experience that helps visitors find books that resonate with them, creating a deeper connection to the collection.
The special collection
The university's library of rare books and iteams surrounding scientific studies and cryptographic machines. With a goal in enhancing CMU's mission of advancing technology.

Mood
The concept came through different iterations and explorations. Light was the main factor in this experience.

Sketches
Further in, there's been a lot of sketching and prototyping with projectors and light gels.

Layout
The space was crucial, from the rhino top down view model, to the parti and flow diagram.

How does it work?
The experience is fully analog, a person getting a gel card that they can punch at different interest stations and then reflect on the wall through light.

Fabrication
To achieve a higher fidelity, a real life model was created for the light stand, card box, as well as the cards themselves.

Since the aim was to get a introductory video, these models proved right to execute.
